Brunfelsia
pauciflora macrantha
|
Family: Solanaceae
Origin: South America
Common name: "Royal BlueBrunfelsia"
|
Information:
Evergreen shrubs, Upright and spreading, to about 4 feet with long dark green leaves.
Flowers are deep purple _2 to 4 inches across.
This plant is a real "shady lady". It is happiest living outdoors year round but you may enjoy it indoors for
a month or so when it is blooming. Can be grown in a pot or in the ground, and can be trained into
a spectacular hanging basket plant by tying down the mature branches.
If you are `good' to your brunfelsia you should have a heavy bloom in the spring, some flowers all summer
and another bloom in the fall.

Culture and Care
Grow in the shade. The brighter the exposure the more nitrogen this plant will need.
Prune only to shape your plant, late November is the best time.
The "Royal Blue" is a real pig when it comes to nitrogen. Use Mir-Acid food every two weeks. November is
an important time to start an intense fertilizing program for 6 weeks:
November 15th, December 1
st., and December 15th, feed with a double strength feeding.
Then on January 1st, continue to feed every two weeks with regular application of Mir-Acid food.
This is a tough plant that does not mind hot weather and is hardy down to at least 30 degrees.
Keep plant nicely moist_never soggy!
tropical climates will get blooms only when night temperatures are falling to about 55°.
