Chamaedorea (Bamboo Palms)
Shade loving; small, graceful, feathery
Palms with slender green, single or clustered stems
and rich green fronds. Outstandingly durable and compact. Long lasting container plant,
requiring a minimum of space. Tolerates
airconditioning well, will tolerate low light to 40fc.
Foliage will bleach in bright sunlight. Prefers to be
tight in the pot. Prefers regular watering but is forgiving of an occasional drying out. Feed
only occasionally once established.

C. elegans "Parlor Palm" (Mexico)
Slender and graceful, relatively quick grower with stiff stem to about 8 or 9
feet tall. Eventually forming clusters, leaves are dark green, thin and leathery.
Excellent in shady spots (from 40fc +). Tolerates a/c as well as neglect and abuse.
Is considered the most satisfactory small palm grown indoors today.
Excellent terrarium plants.

C. elegans `bella' "Neanthe bella Palm" (E. Guatamala)
More dwarf in habit than C. elegans and slower growing to 3-4 feet tall.
Clusters of thin stems, graceful rosettes of small, leathery dark green fronds 10-12cm long.

C. erumpens "Bamboo Palm" (Honduras)
Dwarf cluster palm forms bushy, erect bamboo-like reed-stems, loosely
placed down to the base with short, drooping leaves. Leaf segments are broad,
dark green with a papery texture. Once established, bamboo palms can tolerate a/c.
Shade tolerant to 40fc +.

C. glaucifolia "Blueleaf Cham" (Guatamala)
Non-clumping, solitary stems slowly climbing to 15-20 feet tall. Very
graceful, slender fronds with long, narrow leaflets up to 3-5 feet long in a blueish gray
over dark green.

C. seifrizii "Reed Palm" (Mexico: Yucatan)
Small clustering, slender cane-like stems alternately arranged with
broadly spreading fronds. Leaves are long and narrow and spaced well apart giving
the plant a lacy appearance. Is able to withstand wind, sun and some cold temperatures.
