Onita has developed a love for gardening since she was a little girl. Her Mother and Grandmother would often ask her to help them garden or take her to botanical gardens in Southern California. She continued to learn plant names and care for her own garden by trial and error.
Retail was not her first choice as a career, but merely a job while attending college. Onita graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. After working with troubled teens within Southern California’s Correctional Department and teaching them much needed skills through horticultural therapy, she knew she wanted to remain connected to horticulture. She started out as a cashier at Roger’s Gardens in 2005 and became an Operations Team Leader in 2007. After 8 years of working in operations, her organizational expertise was needed in the growing Original Designs department. Although design is not something that comes naturally to her, she loves what she does and it shows by her always-present smile.
