Our Heirloom Pumpkins, Squash & Gourds
share
Each year Roger’s Gardens sources the most interesting, decorative and unusual pumpkins, squash and gourds. These aren’t your normal orange Jack-o-Lanterns, although we have those as well. A portion of our specialties come from a very small husband and wife farm in the hills above Half Moon Bay, along the coast West of San Francisco. Tony and Stephanie, our pumpkin farmers, still grow them the old-fashioned way, with love and care. |
Tony comes from a long family of pumpkin farmers. He grows our pumpkins on a small 18-acre farm tucked into a canyon. It’s a family business, with his wife Stephanie often driving the tractor, while Tony tends to the plants. It’s hard work and long days, often well into the evening. When harvest comes, each pumpkin is hand cut, wiped clean and stacked in rows in the field. The next day Tony and few buddies from school roll through the field again, stacking the pumpkins carefully into large boxes for their trip down to Roger’s Gardens. |
Roger’s Gardens is the only retailer outside of the local bay area where Tony sends his pumpkins. He wants to be sure they are treated with the same respect and love as he and his wife have given them. With Tony’s help, Roger’s Gardens has built a reputation of the most unusual, beautiful and hard-to-find varieties, many of which are found nowhere else. This year features over 30 varieties, the most ever. But supplies are always limited – it’s best to shop early while the selection is best. |
For 2022 Roger’s Gardens is introducing a selection of our pumpkins and squash with vines attached. Designers love these, but they are almost impossible to find, because they are difficult to harvest and ship and the big mega-growers and their machinery don’t like the long stems and vines – but we do and we think you will as well. At Roger's Gardens, you will find some of our most interesting, unusual artist inspired designer pumpkin, squash and gourd varieties for 2022. Enjoy! |
