Marianna Nardin was born in Venice, Italy. She has always had a passion for art, especially for sculpture. She studied Fine Arts and Fashion Design at the Academy of Arts in Venice and fashion in Milan. During her studies she learned different techniques of painting, sculpting and sewing. She started creating dolls at a young age when she discovered the magic of paper clay in 1999. The “Circus of Lost Dolls” is her creation which include pieces designed for Halloween, Christmas, and Easter. Her first creations were inspired by fairies, trolls, and gnomes. Over the years she admired many talented artists online and became passionate about Art Dolls. Marianna started creating dolls in her spare time, but it quickly turned into a full-time activity. |
In the last few years, Marianna started to experiment with new techniques to build and paint bodies in a more realistic style. The bodies of her dolls are now articulated with joints. Some of them are made of fabric with metal wire armature inside. The armature is created in cotton cloth, wool or metal to allow movement in the arms and legs. She adds a wooden ball at the joints, creating knees and elbows. The hands are carved in paper clay and sewn through a small hole on the fabric section, allowing them to move. Marianna uses many mediums, such as oil colors, pastels, and painting with a sponge. Each creation is one-of-a-kind and has evolved over the years using new materials and techniques. She’s influenced by her personal evolution, the environment, and the world around her. |
