It is one of the most popular basils for culinary use, particularly for its use in pesto, the traditional Genoese sauce. The name "Basilico Genovese" is protected by the European Union with the Denominazione di Origine Protetta certification. Genoese basil is originally from the provinces of Genoa, Savona and Imperia.

Bruschetta
PREP: 5 MINUTES COOK: 5-10 MINUTES

Ingredients:
1 Loaf French Bread, Cut Into ¼ Slices
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
8 Roma Tomatoes, Diced
1 Cup Basil
1 Oz Parmesan Cheese, Grated
2 Cloves Garlic, Finely Chopped
1 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
2 Tsp Olive Oil
¼ Tsp Salt
¼ Tsp Black Pepper

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400F degrees. Brush bread slices on both sides with olive oil and place on large baking sheet. Toast bread until golden, 5 to 10 minutes, flipping them over halfway through. 

2. Toss together tomatoes, basil, Parmesan cheese, and garlic in a bowl. Add balsamic vinegar, 2 teaspoons olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper. 

3. Spoon tomato mixture onto toasted bread slices and serve immediately.
