A Lecture on Art in Laguna Beach by James Irvine Swinden Wednesday, August 31 from 5 PM – 6 PM Join James Irvine Swinden, President of The Irvine Museum, a public museum dedicated to California Impressionism, as he provides an informative and educational lecture on: 'Art in Laguna Beach'. One of the most important colonies was established in the coastal community of Laguna Beach, which Wendt and Symons visited as early as 1897. By 1915 it had a number of resident artists, as well as artists from Los Angeles and elsewhere who maintained studios there. For many years they sold paintings along the roadside, until finally, in 1918, they formed the Laguna Beach Art Association and opened their first gallery. |
